The O&R is open for submissions of long and short form essays, analyses and opinion pieces, as well as book and film reviews. Essays may be between five and 20 thousand words. Book and film reviews should optimally be between two and five thousand words.
We publish footnotes or bibliographies for essays if and where relevant (but not for film and book reviews). Where appropriate, we ask that writers comply with the referencing style per the Australian Guide to Legal Citation, Part III.
Note: these guidelines are flexible and the editor will consider material that does not strictly adhere on a case-by-case basis. Only original work that has not appeared anywhere else will be accepted for publication.
